Nội dung phim Quái Vật Vũ Trụ - Super 8: Ý tưởng của Phim bắt nguồn từ chính cuộc đời của J.J. Abrams (đạo diễn) và Steven Spielberg (nhà sản xuất). Từ khi còn là những cậu nhóc 8 tuổi, cả hai đã đam mê công việc làm phim, họ cùng khám phá các công đoạn sản xuất phim cũng như làm phim Super 8 và các bộ phim dựa trên định dạng máy quay mini 8mm. Loại định dạng được Eastman Kodak giới thiệu năm 1965 đã tạo nền tảng cho cuộc phiêu lưu trên màn ảnh rộng của họ ngày hôm nay.
